Description

These five download-and-print Phonics With Feeling readers are suitable for students in Year 1 or 2, or slightly older catch-up readers. The purchaser may print up to five copies of each book (i.e. 40c per print ex GST). A printable quiz for each book is included, or you can use the Wordwall quiz online.

The books can be used with the Spelfabet Level 4 teaching sequence, Workbooks, word-building sequences and/or some of these playing cards.

Books 1 and 2 revisit the ‘long’ a and o sounds introduced in Sets Two and Three, and introduce new spellings for those sounds. Book 4 introduces a new spelling for the ‘short’ e sound. Books 3 and 5 introduce new sounds and spellings.

The Set Five readers introduce the following sound/spelling patterns: ai as in rain, ay as in day, oa as in goat, ur as in burn, ea as in head, ow as in cow.

Each book focuses on only one spelling for each vowel sound, except in the case of ai/ay. Because the child will have encountered the digraph ay in tricky words already introduced (say, day, pay), it seems appropriate to introduce it along with the ai spelling. Also, some ay words have the ai spelling in the irregular past tense: paid, laid.
