brooch
maroon
Isn’t maroon a oo instead of oh
Maroon as in “don’t maroon me on this island”, yes. But the red-brown colour “maroon” I pronounce rhyming with “grown”. Don’t you?
I believe that maroon (the colour) should be pronounced ‘maroan’, as in brooch is pronounced ‘broach’. Does anyone know of any other words where the ‘oo’ is pronounced ‘oa’? Thank you. Gail Artley.
Hi Gail, those are the only two words I could find apart from names like Roosevelt. Alison
