Spelling Sorted
$AUD0.00
This booklet is for teachers, parents and others who want to be able to look up a sound and find all its spellings, or look up a spelling and find all its sounds.
It also includes some information about where different patterns come from, for example the “tion” in “lotion” is from Latin, the “ch” in “school” is from Greek and the “que” in “boutique” is from French. This helps explain why English spelling is so complicated – it’s really a mashup of multiple languages – as well as making word study more interesting.
It should help you organise your thinking about spelling, in order to give learners proper answers to their spelling questions, and think clearly about how to systematically teach the main patterns.
39 page A4 booklet which downloads as a pdf file for printing.
